Police: Naked Postal Worker Murdered Supervisor, Local Postmaster

Ian Smith - December 25, 2017

A Postal employee in Ohio has been charged with aggravated murder after police reported that he showed up to work in the nude and then proceeded to murder two co-workers just before Christmas.

Police said that DeShaune Stewart, 24, of Columbus showed up to work and shot his supervisor, Lance Herrera-Dempsey, 52, at approximately 4:30 AM on Saturday morning.

Witnesses who were present said that Herrera-Dempsey said “What the hell?” upon seeing the naked Stewart. Stewart then allegedly shot Herrera-Dempsey in the shoulder, and then delivered the second fatal shot after he fell to the floor.

Reports said that Stewart then drove to an apartment complex where he attacked and killed local postmaster Ginger Ballard, 53. At approximately 7:18 AM, Stewart, who was still naked and carrying his weapon, was seen chasing Ballard around the parking lot of the apartment complex. He then threw her to the ground where she died instantly of a blunt force trauma injury sustained when she hit her head.

Police arrested Stewart near the apartment complex and have charged him with aggravated murder in what is being called a “workplace violence” incident.

According to Columbus Police, Stewart was being investigated for misconduct. “There had been some type of investigation into his misconduct and it had culminated into possibly him being terminated, and this was apparently the reason his response was very violent,” said Sgt. Dave Sicilian.

The Dublin Post Office has temporarily suspended mail operations in the wake of the incident. “We would like to apologize for any inconvenience and thank the Dublin community for their understanding and support. Our thoughts remain with the victims of this senseless act of violence and their families,” Post Office officials said in a statement.
